Paula Savage wins prestigious design award
Held in Naarm/Melbourne, Moa Arts' Paula Savage (an esteemed printmaker and weaver) took out the top prize at the recent Melbourne Design Fair's Melbourne Design Week (hosted by the National Gallery of Victoria at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre): the Melbourne Design Week Award 2023!
Paula’s works at Melbourne Design Fair are courtesy of Moa Arts and Agency Projects and will appear in FOCUS curated by the National Gallery of Victoria, a special presentation recognising the important contributions of five accomplished Australian women designers and makers.
Paula is a Mualgal woman from the Serganilgal clan group from the village of Dabu on Moa Island, and the Kaurareg Nation of Muralag and Kiriri. She lives in the Kubin community on Moa Island in the near western cluster of islands in Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait). A senior artist, Savage has been a member of Ngalmun Lagau Minaral Art Centre since 2017. Her works are renowned for bringing to life the enduring traditional material practices of her cultural heritage that are both learned and lived.
Congratulations, Paula, from us all at IACA!
